Medawala Viharaya
Is located in the Mahanuwara district in Medaoya Pattuwa in the village of Medawala and is 9.6 km from Kandy.There are 3 bus routes to Medawala.They are Bokkavala Road though Hataraliyadda,the road through ranawana and the road throuth Ambatenna. Travelling from Kandy one could reach Katugasthota and use any one of these roads.
The temple is popular for its wall painting.As the shring room is constructed on stone pillars,it is known 25 “Tampita Pilimage”. Construction shrines of this nature was popular during the Kandy peiod.These buildings were on stone pillars about 2 or 3 feet above the ground,was with wooden floors.this small temple is 13 – ¾ ft. In length and 9 ½ ft.in breadth.the walls were made of wattle and daud”and is about 8 feet in hight. In the centure is the statue of the Buddha.above it is the magnificent “Makara thorana” or the Dragon archway and is in painted stucco.
There is a 4ft. Platform surrounding the Vihara.where pepole could go round and worship. The 3 tierd roof is over laid with a special type of tile. The paintings of the Vihara include :Animisa Lochana Pujawa” the dansers,admin’s peak,Divaguhawa,Uraga Jataka and some other paintings. These paintings show that the traditional style which is akin to the Kandyan period is followed.

Horton Plains

2011 Best year for tourism....
Sri Lanka’s tourist arrivals will reach unprecednted growth this year with the number of visitors expected to touch the 800,000 mark according to Sri Lanka tourism data.
The number of arravals rose 27.2 percent in September from a year earlier and to rise every month on a year-on-year basis May 2009.
We are confident the number of tourists will reach 800,000 by the end of this year which has been so far the best year of tourism in Sri Lanka.

Coral Reefs
Coral reefs add beauty to the sea word. It is also a blessing because the reefs reduce the speed of the ocean waves and minimize coastal erosion.
There are several factors that are used to measure the value of a coral reef. Its biodiversity, the area it covers, the number of coral varieties and the percentage of the live coral covering are some of them. The Hikkaduwa coral reef is one of the Sri Lankan treasures. The Bouna Vista coral Reef which is situated a few miles away from Galle town and the corals at Unawatuna are the other places in the Southern coast where we find coral.
The Sri Lankan coastal line is rich which this ‘little Sinharaja’ at the bottom of the sea. Most species of corals are vanishing rapidly because of the destructive fishing method and sewage disposal. We must protect coral reefs one of our natural treasures.
